School Bell

Picture
Picture
The school bell on the Old Iron Club show grounds was donated by Velma Douglas.  The bell and the cornerstone were a part of the Clark School District in Wilson County.  Someday we hope to have an authentic schoolhouse on the show grounds.
At one time, there were 100 known country schools in Wilson County.  Most of these closed prior to, or upon school consolidation in 1969.
Locations of rural schools can be found on records at the Wilson County Historical Society Museum, as well as records in the Register of Deeds office in the Wilson County court house, both in Fredonia.
The Class of 1904 at the Maple Grove school, one of the many rural schools in Wilson County.
