Aldo Leopold and the Conservation District

Picture
The 2015 Kansas Heritage Series presented a screening of "Green Fire", the first full-length documentary film ever made about legendary conservation thinker Aldo Leopold.

Green Fire explores Leopold’s extraordinary career and his enduring influence – tracing how he shaped the modern conservation movement and continues to inspire projects all over the country that connect people and the land.
“We abuse land because we regard it as a commodity belonging to us. When we see land as a community to which we belong, we may begin to use it with love and respect.” Foreword, A Sand County Almanac.

"Conservation can accomplish its objectives only when it springs from an impelling conviction on the part of private land owners."

ALDO LEOPOLD, Conservationist, Landowner and author of "A Sand County Almanac"

Sand County Foundation inspires and enables private landowners to ethically manage the natural resources in their care, so future generations have clean and abundant water, healthy soil to support the world's growing food demands, suitable habitat for wildlife and opportunities for outdoor recreation.
The Leopold Conservation Award Program recognizes agricultural landowners actively committed to a land ethic. Working with prominent state conservation partners, Sand County Foundation presents the prestigious honor, in settings that showcase the landowners’ achievements among their peers.
